Prep your lawn for winter and next spring.
Late fall is the last chance to prepare your lawn for winter and insure a quick start for next spring. Your lawns root system is still quite active and this is the time to promote plenty of growth in that area before winter dormancy. While people consider doing nothing until spring, that is the wrong move. Your lawn will feed off the fertilizer until at least Thanksgiving and then store any unused portion to get through the winter months.
Mow lower as late fall arrives, enter winter without new top growth. New growth is more apt to winter lawn diseases, as well as drying out excessively from winter winds. Disease can cause dead spots you'll first notice in spring. Winds can also cause damage resulting in brown areas. So, as winter approaches gradually bring the height down as low as possible without scalping. Gradually do this to avoid removing to much of the blade at once.
Before the snow begins remove leaves and other debris which can smother the grass leaving damaged or diseased areas in spring.
Remember, service is continuous next season so we'll be back in early spring to apply your pre-emergent in a timely manor. This is a great time to discuss any changes your lawn may need for spring. So please don't hesitate to call or email so we can make sure we have your lawn set to go early next season with the correct treatments! If no changes are needed to your program there is no need to contact us. |
