Aeration & Seeding
Aeration and seeding are some of the most important services you can provide for your cool season lawn. Aeration and seeding are best combined as one service. You will not see the benefits of aeration on cool season grass alone, without adding the seed. A thick, weed free lawn starts with aeration and seeding every fall.
Aeration, also called core aeration, is the process of perforating the soil, as well as any thatch layer that might exist, by removing a core or plug of soil and depositing that core on the surface to break down.
Benefits of Aeration for Your Lawn
- Allows water, air and fertilizer to penetrate all the way down to the root zone. This in turn allows the roots to grow deeper, creating a more healthy and thicker lawn.
- Reduces the chances of having thatch buildup. Thatch makes it harder for your lawn to absorb water and nutrients. It also makes it more susceptible to disease.
- Reduces soil compaction, creating more channels for water, air, and nutrients to travel through. Just like humans, your grass needs water, oxygen and food to thrive.
- Creates optimal environment for seeding. New seed has the opportunity to embed it the soil, absorbing nutrients so that it can sprout lush, green grass.
Lawn seeding is a process of spreading grass seed over already existing turf. Generally, seeding is best for larger areas where the turf is thin, but not bare. Smaller areas that are thin or infested with weeds can be spot seeded.
Benefits of seeding your lawn include filling in areas of turf damaged by summer stress, diseases or insects, thickening and increasing its density, improving the lawn’s overall appearance, and enhancing its ability to fight insects and disease.
